  • Electric fencing energisers may only have a maximum fence voltage of 10 000 Volt on open circuit and not exceeding 5 000 Volt on contact
  • minimum fence voltage may not be less than 2 000 Volt
  • the impulse period must be at least 1 second
  • the maximum discharge energy in contact may not exceed 5 Joule (equivalent to a maximum discharge current of 10 A on contact)
  • electric fencing energisers that do not or no longer comply with these specifications may not be commissioned or continued to be used
  • an electric fence located near traffic routes must be signposted
  • this identification must be affixed at distances not exceeding 100 meters
  • Warning signs at least 200 mm wide and 100 mm high, with a yellow base area on both sides, are best suited for such signs
  • these warning signs must display a graphic symbol and a warning “Caution! Electric fence” with a type size of at least 25 mm
  • the markings must be durable
  • electric fences along traffic routes are prohibited unless suitably signposted
  • observe the installation notes and instructions for the erection of fence systems supplied with every electric fencing energiser

Further notes on charging energy and discharge energy

  • high charging energies can be misleading since this only specifies the energy the electric fencing energiser draws from the specific energy source (mains 230 Volt, battery or rechargeable battery) during charging
  • the decisive parameter for comparison of electric fencing energisers is therefore the discharge energy – this is the energy actually released to the electric fence
